The countdown to the Football World Cup 2026 continues, bringing us ever closer to the big event. Just a few months before its start, in Mexico City and other parts of the country, we can already notice the enormous economic contributions it will make to the tourism and real estate sectors.

How Much Will Mexico Generate with the 2026 World Cup?

The last two World Cups generated record profits in their respective countries. The 2018 World Cup in Russia generated 5.4 billion USD, and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar reached 7.6 billion dollars. 1

The World Cup in Mexico is expected to have an economic impact of up to 3 billion dollars, along with the arrival of over 5.5 million visitors between June and July 2026.2

In preparation for the great event, millions of Mexican pesos were invested in renovations for the Mexico City International Airport. Another investment was made in city mobility and for the Azteca Stadium's infrastructure.2

Opportunity Areas for the Real Estate Sector

In total, Mexico will host 13 games; 5 of them will be in Mexico City, including the opening match of the World Cup on June 11, 2026. As a result, the rent on commercial premises is projected to increase by 25% to 40%3, especially in tourist areas and near the Azteca Stadium.

Regarding vacation rentals, demand increased by 3,000%, and nightly rates rose by up to 155%, reaching 200 USD.2 This phenomenon will be very beneficial for landlords with properties in the following areas:

· Tlalpan, due to its proximity to the Azteca stadium.

· Historic Center, for its great cultural offer and for being the “Fan Zone”.

· Reforma and Polanco, for their luxury services and first-class connectivity.
